Bright Obeng
Born 1974, Ghana, West Africa. Apprentice of Victor Martey aka Afrimartey. Began painting movie posters in the late 1980s as a teenager. Allied stylistically with Heavy J, his contemporary and friend. Paints in great detail and with no fear of density in images of completely different scale and composition. Throws seemingly unrelated images of completely different scale and dimensional plane together with verve. His protagonists really pop in heroic, propaganda poses, muscles blaring. Often includes a sidways glance on his characters’ faces. Loves the color blue en masse as a background and as a highlight against anything black. Can create ripples on clothing as well as flesh, with veins protruding in abundance. Exploding cattails of flame are his infrequent form of depicting fire. An avid Kung Fu fan who paints both on flour sacks and commercial canvas. Quitee capable of hitting it out of the park if he spends the time. Knows his jungle foliage in addition to muscles and period piece clothing.
